It is our biggest fundraiser of the year. Not only will this year be our 5th time hosting the event, but it will also hopefully be the largest turnout. VIP tickets are already running out and individual tickets are selling just as fast. With fabulous table rates, this will surely be yet another sell out.
In case you are lost, I am talking about the Women Like Us Afternoon Tea and Speaker Series annual fundraiser. The past few years have been a smashing success and this year our keynote speaker will be Jessica Fellowes of the Chronicles of Downton Abbey. Proceeds benefit WLU’s One Girl At A Time Program, a mentor group with a focus on developing personal and life skills, values clarification, career and resource mentoring and emphasis on giving back to the community and the world. That sounds like a mouthful, but essentially it is a girls’ mentor program that helps them realize their dreams and not only strive for and reach their own dreams, but to give back and help others do the same. All of this is cleverly packaged as a humanitarian trip to Costa Rica in which the expectations of the program will be reached ten fold. The program itself will do wonders, but the trip will teach each girl lessons that no other experience can. When you combine a great cause with an amazingly successful and pleasant woman like Jessica Fellowes, the Afternoon Tea fundraiser will exceed all attendees’ expectations.
In the half decade the Afternoon Tea has existed, it has come to mean a lot to people. For some, it is simply a break from the monotonous daily schedule and a fun outing with friends and coworkers. For others, it is a great way to get more involved with the community and to help those in need. For just a few, it is a pivotal fundraiser that means the difference between a life changing experience that will shape their future or dreams of attending the humanitarian trip next year.
No matter the reason for attending, everyone regards the Afternoon Tea with excitement and respect. It is surely a time to rekindle old friendships, make new memories and try something new. Veterans and first timers, young and old are welcome to attend. Do not miss this great opportunity. I promise you won’t regret it.
